Tripp MotorsportsPerry Tripp Working with #22 Allcar Motorsports Team
The end of the 1999 racing season completed Perry's first year with Dave Carroll's #22 NASCAR Busch Grand National team in Denver, North Carolina. Tripp had anticipated driving with the Busch Series himself in '99, but lack of sponsorship forced him to consider other avenues within the racing business. "This was a new Busch team looking for experienced people to help it get started," stated Tripp. "I was contacted by crew chief Todd Lohse, who comes from a road racing background and had worked over the past several seasons for drivers Kyle Petty and Greg Sachs. Todd asked me to come aboard to help manage the parts and day-to-day operations of the team."
Air Jamaica Vacations sponsored the #22 Monte Carlo, which saw 3 different drivers over the course of the season - former ARCA driver Jimmy Kitchens, Winston Cup driver Steve Grissom and finally newcomer Bobby Hamilton, Jr. Highlights for the team were a 6th place qualifying effort at Charlotte Motor Speedway in October, a 14th place finish at New Hampshire in May and a 9th place finish to end the season in Homestead in November.
Tripp took on additional duties with the team late in the season serving as spotter for Hamilton, Jr. "Bobby is a young, up-and-coming driver with a load of talent," he said, "and he's been enjoyable to work with. We're looking forward to Bobby having a good year in 2000 with our much-improved race team!"
Perry still hopes to return to work behind the wheel if the right deal should come together. He appreciates the interest his fans have continued to show throughout the year.
